How to extract music from the Sims2!
Have you ever wanted some of that funky Simlish music from your Sim's radio to put on your own MP3 player? Well here's how (and it's not all that complicated)... First, you'll need SimPE[1].
Open up SimPE then click on File -> Open
Find your Sims 2 folders on your hard drive (C:/Program Files/EA Games) which will list the folders for the base game and all the expansions you have. Choose which expansion you want to take music out of, and click on its folder. The music can be found in (Expansion folder)/TSData/Res/Sound. Then select which genre (e.g. pop, hiphop, metal) of music your desired track is in. The names of the genres (as well as build, buy and voice files) are all .package files.
Choose which file you want to open in SimPE, you should get up a screen like this:
Right-click on one of the 'mp3 or xa Sound File' and click "extract", then choose a folder on your hard drive to save it.
Open up where you saved the file, and click on the .mp3 file (you can ignore the .xma one). It is now on your hard drive for your listening pleasure!
