Here is a quick and hopefully easy tutorial on how to make a custom object for the Sims 3.

This tutorial will not contain information on how to mesh or texture. There are many tutorials that will teach you these steps.

Tools needed: 1. Wes H [S3Model Tool]http://linna.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=359585&c=1&ht=&page=1&pp=25#startcomments

2. Peter Jones [S3OC]http://www.simlogical.com/Sims3ToolsForum/index.php?topic=259.0 and [S3PE] http://www.simlogical.com/Sims3ToolsForum/index.php?topic=171.0

3. Milkshape [1] Make sure you have the latest version.

4.. And alot of patience.

    • Please read it creators notes carefully as to what programs or additional tools are needed. And the settings that are required for each program. I will not be covering this in this tutorial.**

Before I get started I would like to thank both Wes and Peter for their amazing tools.

Now for the Steps:

1. Open s3oc

2. In the top left hand corner click file then new (clone) [2]

3. Let the thumbnails and objects load for the status check bottom left hand corner. It will load the objects first then the thumbnails.

4. Scroll until you find an object you want to clone. I choose the Country Cushion Dining Chair. Left mouse click on the thumbnail. [3]

5. Next click on Start. [4]

6. Create a working directory if you haven't done so already. Next click Save. [5]

A. Remember to give your object a name the default name is okay.

[6]

7. Click Ok. You can close S3OC or just minimize the window we will be using it again. [7]

8. Open S3PE.

9. In the top left hand corner click file then open. [8]

10. Navigate to your working folder and open the file you saved in step 6. [9]

11. There are four files that we are interested in. One model file and three lod files. To help you find them look at the second column that says tag and look for the the extensions MODL and MLOD. [10]

12. We are going to export each of these four files. One at a time. To export go to File at the top left hand corner and click export. Make sure these are going into your working folder. Repeat until all four files have been exported. [11]

13. If you haven't done so already open up the folder with Wes plugins in it. At this time you should have no more than four files in there. The other two should be in the Milkshape directory. At this time we are only concerned with the s3modld file in this folder. [12]

14. Now with Wes folder still open, open your working directory and locate each of your files that you exported in step 12. Drag and drop each file on the s3modld file one at a time. But becareful after you drop a file it produces many other files. See pic below. Make sure you are dropping the one model file and the three lod files. [13]

15. After that is done open up milkshape and import the mcfg files one at a time. There are four because of our four files. To import them go to the top left hand corner click file then import go all the way to the bottom. Wes plugin should be the fifth one from the bottom it is called Sims3 Object import V0.05. Now import your first mcfg file and edit until you are happy. When you are finish editing use the sims 3 object export. Make sure to do this for each file. [14]

16. When you are finishing editing and texturing your objects we will import them back into S3PE. To do this click on file then import and replace the original file with your edited one. One you import your file you will get a pop up window. See pic below. Do not change anything just click ok. Do this for each of the four files. From the second and third picture below you can tell your old file will be crossed out and your new file will be at the bottom. [15] [16] [17]

17. This step is optional. This is about thumbnails and textures. If you want the game to create thumbnails based on your objects then you need to delete the default thumbnails. (Thanks to Teko for pointing this out). To do this go to Resource at the top then click deleted. Make sure you have your thumbnails files selected. You can delete all of them at once. [18]

A. If you have created custom textures then you want to edit your texture files in this package. I will not be explaining how to do this. It's pretty simple you would just export each img file, edit them and then import them back.

18. Save (do not forgot to save).

19. Now go back to S3OC and go to file then open(fix). You will be opening your file that you saved in step 6. [19]

20. Now we are going to edit the details of our package. We are going to edit the catalog name and description. Next we are going to edit the price if you like. Make sure the copy to English button is checked. If you are using custom thumbnails you can also click the replace button to add your own thumbnail. Next click save. [20]

21. Click OK. You can change the name if you like. [21]

22. Next click Save. [22]

23. Finally click OK. [23]

24. Next import your file in the game with the launcher of your choice.

25. Test it out in the game. See if has any major issues. [24] [25] [26]
